Heineken – It’s all about the bad ads
I really enjoy the Heineken ads, and dont think at all that they are “all about the bad ads”
Heineken is one of the few beer companies that don’t go the easy way and show hot blondes, etc. There is always a creative element in their ads, and that’s what makes them so good.

i remember when during the euro cup when heineken played those ads with a girl falling asleep on a guys arm and he couldn’t get to his beer (that chris issac song was playing in the background). so he had to say ‘i love you’ to get her to move.
and then those suck-ass greeks won. what a joke that was.
no, mike lite is correct. 99% of the Heineken work is bad. It travels under the guise of being creative but if you look a little beyond the surface you’ll see just how obvious most of the work is.
The “I love you” spot and the “Christmas snow/corp. scandal” spot were by far the best work for Heineken in the last few years. Everything else…lousy.

Not to flame you or anything but I think every ad needs something to grasp the attention of its audience a little longer, which is the point of looking beyond the surface as you’ve said. I agree and personally think that these ads do a better job than most of its competition. To it’s audience, I think everyone (who drinks that is) understands how a broken beer bottle feels, ESPECIALLY, if it’s the last one.
i suppose what i’m trying to say regarding the ads above is that they leave me with nothing. I get them wayyy to quickly. They’re too easy. Yes, it takes a second to figure out what’s going on but once you do there’s not much of a payoff. Oh, a guy is crying over his beer (would anyone actually do that? doubt it.). Wow.
DOn’t tell me you saw these ads and said “Holy crp! That’s smart!”
Remeber Heinekens tagline… “It’s all about the beer”
Their ads for sure support that statement.
remember the tv spot where all the guys had a red arm because they were searching in the cold barrel for the last can?
It goes back to the “It’s all about the beer” part.
It’s all about consistancy.
They need better models.
They need a new tagline.
The beer’s not that great.
How about this: “Heineken. It used to be cool when import beers first came over in the late 70’s. Now, they’re a dime a dozen and there a dozen better
import beers available for the same price.”
Would that work?
Heineken better get itself away from the eurotrash/collarsup creatives at Publicis and get back to Lee Garfinkel at DDB. He knew what he was doing.
