La Piazza
The 2006 Olympiad in Torino
Without a doubt one of the most innovative visual communications program in the history of the games. All of the visual elements are brought together under the concept of the Piazza (public square) to create the “look of the games”. This is a massive project and its execution at various levels is very impressive and is sure to catch the attention of anyone interested in event communication systems as complex as that of the olympics. From the fantastic multi-dimentional pictograms and wonderful event signage to the stunning medals and an amazing torch design the credit is definitely due to the folks at TOROC graphic team, Benincasa-Husmann, Pininfarina and Ottaviani.

Indeed Fredster, I really like it. Very nice style. Not a spectacular innovation but still it’s fresh. Please don’t remember me of that digusting design for the Athens Olympics. I also like the designs for the medals. Contemporary but still timeless.

I’m so glad you like the Torino Olympic designs. They were created by Iconologic design company in Atlanta and in particular by Elise Woodward Thomason, lead designer. They worked in cooperation with TOROC.
