Pepsi Access
BBDO created a subway poster that has a fully functional headphone jack imbedded in it, which plays samples of various exclusive tracks available at pepsiaccess.ca. There are close to 100 posters playing 12 different tracks running in Toronto and Vancouver from now until the end of summer.
Every Pepsi comes with a PIN, which can be redeemed for access to ultra-exclusive music, concerts, events, etc. at pepsiaccess.ca. This poster plays a 30 second track sample of “Crazy†by Gnarls Barkley. After an announcer says: “That was a taste of an exclusive track from Gnarls Barkley. Check out pepsiaccess.ca for more.”
Great idea.
Agency: BBDO, Toronto.

I like this idea, cause usually you dont get to play with posters, this creates a new side of interactivity specially on board a train cause you are stuck inside without much to do.
Here in Sydney there was a similar stunt launched by Absolut, showing Lenny Kravitz and at the bottom you had the chance to choose between 3 sockets to listen to some tunes. The problem was that it was on the sidewald, and it was unlikelly for people to stop and listen. Thats probably why it didint have much impact.

It makes me wonder whether or not people would bother. If you’re on the subway, with headphones, there’s a good chance you’re listening to you iPod.
So if you’ve got an iPod, and you know how to use it, you could easily get the entire 2:58 of that song for free, and not even waste your time.
Or just listen to FM radio - that song’s getting enough play.

its a nice thought, but practicality on subway trains.. hmm, i’m not too sure nor enthusiatic about the idea..

Very cool idea… maybe it works in Toronto. I live in NY and take the train to work and we’re packed in like Sardines. It’s a bbit too crowded for this type of an idea but it’s still very interactive.. maybe they can create these things in public bathrooms cross country…. counted on to the bathrooms doors…. (j/k… or am I).
June 8th, 2006 at 1:31 pm
Yulia,
I think you’re on to something with your bathroom version of this. It could play songs like, “Yellow Submarine” to tie into the pissing theme.
Of course, a lot of people might be queasy about touching the jack…
