It’s so subtle. I feel as though oonly mac users (designers at best) would get it. So you’re advertising to female mac designers/ad who feel like they are aging/damaging their skin and doing so in Dubai. That’s a niche market, I’d say.
Control Z would target any professional woman. Which in a place like Dubai with a booming professional class and well educated women, I’d say this probably works. Although it may be too clever by half.
I love it but I’m male and in my twenties so thats probably not the best benchmark to judge this on!
I think with people, in particular the 40+ age bracket getting ever more tech savvy, that this ad is bang on the mark but maybe a little too ahead of the game!
You do hear of 14yr olds using these anti wrinkle face creams these days though!
This is pretty clever, though I agree most (perhaps) women would not get it (most men wouldn’t either). But I’m sure Oil of Olay did some research on their market before launching this. If nothing else though, those who don’t get it may be interested to find out what the message is.
I would also be interested to know the market/pubs it’s running in. But it’s definitely clever. I don’t know how many times, off-line, that I’ve wished for the Undo command or Apple + Z.
A coworker of mine came back from a conference the other day with a sheet of suprising statistics on how the number of older computer users is increasing. We often assume that old people don’t use computers, but that’s not what the stats show. Which is why an ad like this would work.
i’d guess that this would appeal to secretaries/office workers, who are probably exactly the target demographic. anyone who uses Word would understand it.
Perhaps this was solely designed to be entered into award shows…hence the disagreement over the target audience (Because a lot of visual solution don’t have a target audience per se).

Great for a computer magazine read by older women… but I doubt that exists. I’d love to know the context

not even mac users. for mac users it would’ve been apple+z

I’m sure it didn’t occur to them, but this does have the benefit of working in two “dialects”: in Windows it’s “undo”, and in Unix it’s “suspend”.
(And yes, I’d imagine that even women in Dubai know about “Undo”).

Oh hell yes.
