Somehow… I don’t think this ad would fly too well in the US…

A little racist?

Was it really necessary to have all the slap-ee’s be white? I agree with Kristen, this seems somewhat racist in more ways than one.

Are you guys serious? Coffee is normally black, don’t you think it’s logical, that the arm would be black aswell? Second: If the art director would cast a black person to be slapped, it would be difficult to make out what happens in the visual, and therefore we wouldn’t understand the idea.
I think Kristen and Sev need a Bonafide slapping in the face.

One of the victims should have been clad in a KKK outfit. That would be interesting!

Well, it think this racist element makes this ad complete.

If it will ignite any impression of racism, the idea shouldn’t be used at all.
There are other ways to emphasize the black contrasting against the white without being too provoking. It doesn’t necessary have to see one dominant over the other.

lol.
I totally agree with you Raph. There’s nothing racist with this ad! Moreover, it’s a really good one. I think that the message is clear and well realised.

maybe if the guy who was getting slapped was black too it would work… ok people we’re all overthinkging it. is it a tad racist, yes. is the concept decent… people obviously approved it and this monster is alive. it went throh creatives, account adn the client and perhaps even media buyers. what next?

I don’t know why I’m investing time in this ridiculous discussion but people please… I’m colored myself and in now way I feel offended by these visuals. I can not believe you people are so narrow-minded. That’s why I’ll just conclude you guys are just looking for errors and problems, which aren’t there. Silence is golden. So, shut up if you don’t have anything intresting to say.

Look at the people being slapped. White trash trailer park guy, aiurport security guy, red neck trucker guy. All who are sort of stereotypically “rascist” in thye view of many. So I think the “black slap” works in this case.

You guys are sick…
June 26th, 2007 at 9:19 am
… love the ad.

I think the hands don’t look like they’re slapping. They look like they’re gently holding the faces while the guys mush and gently rest themselves on the hands.
A better way to show a slap is to have the hand *beyond* the face with a red mark across the cheek.
To fix the “black” problem, the arm could’ve been clad in a black leather jacket, with a black leather glove. Then you’ll have a “black” arm without the guy having to be black.
