Funny, but how is this meant to sell chocolate?

Believe it or not, this advert was the final straw that pushed me over the edge and made me buy a drum kit.

He looks so happy!

He also looks like Phil Collins.

I love the movement in the gorillas face, particularly at the beginning. I don’t get how it promotes chocolate, but it is well made.

Funny enough I guess, but they could have cut about a minute off and made it better.

I think this ad is promoting the JOY of eating Cadbury chocolate. It does this by making you feel as happy as the Gorilla is laying that drum beat. I’m a drummer, it definately makes me smile!

Also, I think it works bacause it’s so bizarre — I’ve been sent this youtube video several times via email over the last 2 weeks or so, so in that sense, the Cabury name and brand are getting around, and talked about. When people talk aout Cabury chocolate, they might just go out nd grab some.

As a drummer, I can promise you that every drummer, just as they are starting to get decent, does that exact same thing. That is is a moment from my own life captured brilliantly.

it was made by Juan Cabral(argentinian…he also has done spots by Sony Bravia, Fallon Agency and Phil Rumbol)…it was a VERY expensive spot…(more than €13 million)

Toss it and turn it as many times as you want. Still there’s the fact of WTF has it to do with the chocolate? Don’t get me wrong, as a video idea it’s refreshing and new but won’t encourage me to buy the chocolate. And that’s a pitty for such a nice clip. Like they say in French: C’est gratuit. The only profit will be made for the director, who can ad an astounding film to his already impressive portfolio. This spot would’ve been more appropriate for a brand like Skittles, for example.

i hear somethng that it wants to promote the preservation of animal species that are in danger…

although creative… the €13 million could be instead used to save the gorillas (who are now on the extremely endangered list) and feed half of the starving world. advertising is so obscene sometimes.

What a waste of money. Cadbury could have done more for their brand awareness by donating the money it took to make this PATHETIC ad and donate it to the mountain gorilla fund, and put that in an ad. I’m totally against Cadbury after seeing this and reading how much they spent on it. This world is so fucked up it’s scary.

well…the idea is about promoting the protection of that kind of species, that are in danger…

Where do you people get your facts.
Really 13million, thats terrible, its a disgrace, the world is evil…….
Take a deep breath, think about it a two day shoot in a rehearsal studio in London, about 15 crew and a guy in a gorilla suit. HOW COULD IT POSSIBLY COST 13million euros. Unless they were on a half a million a day each.
It cost a couple of hundred grand tops.

If he said they taught a gorilla to drum then would you believe that.

the £6.2 million talked about was for the entire campaign, god knows what that entails, but the commercial had a fairly modest budget by usual standards.

Think people please, you cleverer than that.

You are right Coda, making that ad was on par with the holocaust.

I am ashamed for my part in it, and the subsequent degradation of society that it has caused.
If only i had realized that what we were doing was not just making a funny spot with a drumming Gorilla, and summoning satan to walk the earth again.

Your reaction is so depressing. Enjoy the daily mail. x

I think everyone is missing the obvious…

The fact that we are all talking about this ad and relating it to Cadbury’s means that 13mil?? is doing what it is ment to do.
Doesn’t have to be related to chocolate, just has to put Cadbury’s in your mind and get people talking about them… Marketing?

I think it is a pretty smart move. Because what we know as advertisers is more than a consumer. This raises new blogs items and populairity on facebook, myspace, etc. People even join groups because the gorilla is so cool. So what does it do? It makes Cadbury a fact and people talk about it. So whats the 31million investment when you get all these other free advertisements for free? It guess it’s all about brand awareness bet if you would ask anyone to name a chocolate brand heaps would say cadbury, just because so many talk about it etc. And yes maybe you could do a campaign for a lot less but i do think it misses it’s goal.
