Blockbuster Christmas
I don’t remember the last time i saw some good creative for Blockbuster, but this TV spot has changed my mind. If you listen and look close, you will notice that the whole spot has references to famous movies. Here is a hint… have a look at the grandma in the end playing with the mash potatoes (Close Encounters). I hear that there are around 35 movie references. Can you spot them all? Leave a comment.

Agree, for the brand this spot is amazing. Love the film references, but I don’t know where “you’re gonna need a bigger boat” is from. Anyone know?

Scarface - Tony Montana: “Say hello to my little friend!”
Jaws - “You’re gonna need a bigger boat.”
& the obvious Street Car Named Desire, Taxi Driver & When Harry Met Sally.
I think the “They’re here, they’re here!” is from some sci-fi flick. not sure though.

Talk about an commercial that makes you want to click “replay” and then cancel Netflix (maybe). Now, thats what I call influential.
I already can’t seem to get “Luke, I’m your father” out of my head. Thank you Blockbuster.

asides from the voice clips there are lots of visual references.
I think the rubbing the windows is its a wonderful life,
there is a fuzzy tv… polterguist
man carrying little boy… tiny tim reference a christmas carol
mash potatoes… close encounters
You also missed the wife yelling at the boy in the bedroom saying “hes not coming out” I don’t know what this is a reference to. Also there is some background children talking when they are being seated at the table but I cant make it out. I wish the pixel quality was better I know there is other things I missed.
