    Whopper Freakout

Love this new campaign by Crispin Porter for Burger King, called the “Whopper Freakout”. They hired the dude from the show “Oblivious” and pretended that the Whopper was no longer available. Instead they would give out Wendy’s burgers, Big Macs etc. Watch the customers, as they “freak out”. Great idea.

that’s pretty good actually, although whoever thinks a fastfood burger is the best clearly needs to get out more.

not a big fan to be honest of this campaign. I get the idea.. its not bad.. but it just seems a tad forced.

It reminds me of the other Crispin campaign where actors played Orginal Coke marketing guys, and fooled actual Coke lawyers into thinking they wanted to sue their own company for introducing a good, low-cal version of Coke.

There’s marketing and then there’s flat-out lying to people. It’s kind of like saying something really mean and incendiary to someone and then saying “just kidding” as a half-ass apology. Life doesn’t work that way and marketing/advertising shouldn’t try to emulate the riff-raff in our society.

I will say that this short plays much better than the 30 second spot. In it, there’s no context and when the people hear the sandwich was removed you see their reactions to what were actually the more “button-pushing” comments/situations revealed here. Compare the 2 and you’ll see that the editing is straight out of a reality show.

Too bad, there is no one freaking out.
