    Pizza Hut Rebranding

Hmmm, Pizza Hut is now “The Hut”. They kept the little hat part, but the type looks very unfriendly to me for some reason. Maybe they should concentrate in reducing the amount of grease on their pizzas rather than changing their image!

As always, what are your thoughts on this rebrand?

Pizza hut used to be about family time adn their mark had some of that hand-made, humanity and warmth. Now it’s about stacking them deep and making them cheap. The new logo represents that loss of warmth/humanity. It’s almost a recognition of the current state of the product and brand experience: Shiny, Syntethic, Plastic, Superficial, assembly line, prefab pizza.

LOL. “The Hut!” The kids’ll absolutely love it! Why, they’ll hang out there just as they used to do at the Soda Shop!

Good call, this is a ridiculous logo/brand.

It is a bad rebranding. It looks like something totally unrelated to food.

    4. Yazmic Gomez Says:

Design is weaker, and communicates nothing. Looks more like a hood hangout than a pizza chain. The “hat” now looks more gangsta.

Another Pepsi screwup. Sales will plummet. Whoever is in charge there should be fired.

Oh joy, a drop shadow how original….

This re branding is LAME. It’s trying to be hip by shortening their own company name to something with a “hook” so teenagers sound cool when saying it. Don’t forget the slight irregular H to gap all the extra negative space as if someone used duct tape to cover a hole in the side of their car. The red on red with a SLIGHT outline around their trademark logo means it is hard to see, and harder to reproduce. I can see a lot of the uniforms coming out irregular thanks to the ass-hat who thought this would be a good idea.

All in all, this artwork leaves a horrible taste in my mouth. Worse then any rumor about how bad Pizza Hut’s pizza actually is. Take your branding out of the meeting room, and find a real designer who can do this company justice.

I think it’s horrid. If it were for a mystery cruise, the type could work with the hat, but for a pizza franchise… it’s garish.

Like the “Hut” hate the “The” ; love the red but hate the over use of it.
“Hut” the typo is better than the old one in my opinion, but the lil roof top is really not my thing…

It’s wise to remove “pizza” because it’s too common in market where I see pizza pizza pizza anywhere.

They should of left the slang alone and keep it just that…slang. That along with this cornea twisting design just shows they are trying WAY to hard.

ugly as! Don’t like the typeface, don’t like the colours. Agree with you about the grease on the pizzas. Haven’t eaten there for years! It tasted plasticy last time I went.

I don’t think they are rebranding all of their locations to “The Hut.” Their website says the “Pizza Hut” name will stay the same, at least for now. A number of the smaller, take-out urban locations here in Dallas were converted several months ago to “The Hut” branding. There’s an image here showing what the new logo looks like commonly used on a black background: http://www.nrn.com/breakingNews.aspx?id=362174. The inside of the rebranded take-out restaurants feature digital menus, oversize wall graphics and the white, black, red theme.

It’s a strategic rebranding since they are trying to expand their menu beyond pizza, although the changes are confusing to consumers. Remember when they temporarily changed the name to “Pasta Hut” back in April 2008?

Someone in the marketing department must have ungodly persuasion skills. Plus, all I can think of is “Pizza The Hut” from Spaceballs.

    20. shaun Says:

      not a rebranding per se:

    21. Ryan Moede Says:
      June 24th, 2009 at 5:05 pm

Ouch - yeah, that’s a big disappointment. I guess The Hut could now stand for just about anything.

    22. Jennifer Song Says:
      June 24th, 2009 at 11:40 pm

Oh, this re-branding of the logo is a failure, I totally agree with you. The font is not acceptable for a pizza store. Don’t understand why they will want to ditch their old logo, which I think is well designed, in terms of color, font style, overall look and feel, good enough for representing their product - pizza.

    23. Gustavs Says:
      June 25th, 2009 at 2:27 am

It would seem that the first logo is the new one. Very bad.

    24. Victoria Design Says:
      June 25th, 2009 at 2:40 am

I agree the typeface is harsh and the logo needs another colour adding in for diversity.

    25. chris Says:
      June 25th, 2009 at 6:15 am

is this new logo a joke or a reverse psychology ad campaign to ‘bring back the original log!’ ??
it truly is depressingly droll and awful as far as a log/brand evolution goes.
      looks like Korean Word art.

    26. Whitney Says:
      June 26th, 2009 at 11:42 am

The type looks like that of Uhaul….which may be the reason you don’t find it to be very friendly for a restaurant. It just makes me think of Uhaul…and moving..not eating.

I really don’t understand cutting the name down to just “the hut.” Things like that only work if “society” refers to a company in a nick name…For example FedEx…I’ve never heard anyone refer to it as “The Hut” for short…it just doesn’t work for me.

    27. Nathaniel Says:
      June 26th, 2009 at 12:53 pm

It seems more like a club logo than a fast food pizza joint…

    28. Steve Says:
      June 26th, 2009 at 3:47 pm

This is not an improvement. I might even stop going there now, just because of this. Too harsh, not fun, not helpful. But I like the little hut :)

    29. TreVesco Says:
      June 27th, 2009 at 7:14 am

I thought the new logo fails.

It looks to me like a logo of a motel.

    30. Jim Says:

I completely agree with Moblinder. Plastic, synthetic, pure rubbish. The original logo (the one before they started putting the little hat at a jaunty angle) was the one that had the attitude of a pizza restaurant we all knew and loved. Now that there practically aren’t any dine-in Pizza Huts anymore — which made Pizza Hut® fun in the first place — they are trying to give it a “quick ‘n’ go” look; which is a huge turn-off for the people who remember it with the dark red carpeted floor and the dimly-lit space. That ‘H’ has gotta go. It’s totally smug. The whole thing seems very smug.

I like the new logo. It looks fresher and more modern.

    32. Emma Says:

I hate this. I like how they’re trying to use all the “phat” “lingo” all the “cool cats” are using these days to make themselves appear “hot” and “hip” to the “gen y kids”.

“Trying to be text friendly” - please, that is NOT a requirement of a business.

I don’t know - a lot of fast food chains are rebranding themselves successfully.

KFC shortened its official name so people realize there’s more than just fried chicken. They’re considering changing their name again to promote the grilled chicken.

Dairy Queen is now DQ because they serve hamburgers, hot dogs, etc.

To me, the most successful fast food advertiser is McDonald’s

It looks cheap and not at all like a logo for a place to eat. Looks more like some printing-and-copying company.

You people are idiots who have no clue about advertising. This is a brilliant move by Pizza Hut.There is a reason they are the leading family dinning chain in the country.

    40. Mark Says:

It’s been stated again and again that this isn’t a complete rebrand.

Pizza Hut isn’t going anywhere, this is just a test of a name.
